Frequently Asked Questions
What should I expect at my 15 min. consultation?
At your consultation, I want to hear who you are, what your goal is and all the steps that led to what you’re feeling now so we can briefly untangle the pain or discomfort and I can tell you a little about how I think I can help given your information.
How should I prepare for my first appointment?
The great thing with Kinesiology work, is there is no getting undressed and oils involved. You just wear comfortable clothes you can move and relax in. I often have you in bare feet so I can see the contours of your foot in standing and in movement to see how it’s relaying info up your body.
What should I expect in ongoing treatment?
Depending on what is going on, I believe deeply in you feeling in control of your healing with a true understanding of the process. Through releasing tight muscles, , re-educating muscular patterns to achieve better efficiency, and strengthening weakened areas to prevent going back to the pain, the goal is to be better than you were before you even got hurt.
Is this a long term fix?
Yes, that is always the goal and should be for any therapy modality.
What exactly is myofacial release?
Myofascial release therapy is a type of gentle, constant massage that releases tightness and pain throughout your myofascial tissues. First, your healthcare provider will locate trigger points, or knots, in your fascial tissues. Then, they’ll gently apply pressure until they feel the tension release.
Is this treatment the same as physical therapy?
My expertise is in the field of Kinesiology, which is the study of the mechanics of body movement. I am not a physical therapist. Because of the definition of Kinesiology, there will obviously be similarities. I was frustrated with the lack of full body approach many PT’s were limited by with insurance. An ankle injury is never just an ankle injury, the compensatory patterns created with a limp travel all the way up to the neck so just looking at the area of pain will never give you the long term fix you deserve.
How long before I can expect to see results?
Most people feel a big difference after one session. The body wants to heal and it knows how if you listen to it. One of my strengths is truly listening to someone’s body and processing the vital information it’s giving. This can be through watching movement patterns, myofascial release, intricate questioning of symptoms and patterns before pain, including emotional tolls the injury has had on you . Often your fascia and muscles will guide me to the root of “pull” you’ve been experiencing and often they are not where the pain is exhibiting. Because I know how powerful the body is in healing, I have a theory I hold myself to that if I can’t completely change or at the very least pave a solid clear path to recovery in 3 sessions, then I have to re-assess the method chosen, This does not mean there won’t be continuous work on the patients part but there will be less mystery to how to get there as well as more immediate decrease in pain in those three sessions.. Once you feel in control again and the plan resonates with you, your body will utterly surprise you.
What makes this type of treatment different?
Unlike western medicine, chiropractic, or physical therapy we strive to find a long term solution that gets you out of the pain you have experienced for so long with no answers or solutions. There are some things that cannot be diagnosed without physical touch and time spent truly tracking down the root of the problem. There are no prescriptions, no funny tools or contraptions, just simple ways to help get you back to the life you want to live!
